Paternoster "Don Anselmo" Aglianico del Vulture DOCG - 2016

Paternoster's "Don Anselmo" is the flagship wine of Basilicata's winemaking, an icon of Southern Italy that has written the history of Aglianico del Vulture. Produced for the first time in 1976 as a tribute to the winery's founder, this wine is born from the oldest vines on the volcanic soils of Mount Vulture, at an altitude of over 600 meters: a unique terroir in the world, capable of giving Aglianico extraordinary complexity and longevity. 

The 2016 is a vintage of great balance. In the glass, it presents itself with a dark and impenetrable ruby red. On the nose, it is powerful and aristocratic: wild blackberry, dried plum, violet, dark chocolate, tobacco, graphite, and a volcanic minerality that makes it unmistakable. On the palate, it is monumental: dense and austere tannins, vibrant acidity, full body, and a very long finish of spices and black fruit. A wine for a great cellar, destined to evolve for decades.
