Massolino Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda - 2012
Massolino's Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda is one of the great Barolos of Piedmont, a sublime expression of one of the Langhe's most celebrated crus. The Vigna Rionda vineyard, located in the municipality of Serralunga d'Alba at an altitude of over 350 meters, has been considered for centuries to be among the best plots for Nebbiolo: compact soils of Tortonian limestone marl and clay bestow upon the wine a powerful tannic structure, destined to evolve magnificently over time. The 2012 vintage, warm and bright in the Langhe, yielded a Barolo of great concentration and depth: on the nose, notes of dried rose, cherry in spirits, tobacco, licorice, leather, and oriental spices emerge; on the palate, it is austere and full, with dense, silky tannins and a freshness that ensures exceptional longevity. A collector's wine, to wait for or to uncork on memorable occasions.
